Desired Role: Innovation – Creating the right business and technology structures and spaces to enable change and growth in line with the passions, talents, and aspirations of employees, customers, and the business.
Dear Madam / Sir,
I am someone who doesn’t fit well into narrow role descriptions, and my view on employee / employer relations isn’t very traditional.
I’m not looking for a specific title like ‘manager’ or ‘architect’, in fact I’m not career-oriented at all. Instead I’d prefer to call myself ‘experience-oriented’. It’s a particular experience that I’m looking for in my working life. The experience I’m looking for is to learn, grow, and express my talents and passions each and every day.
I have a passion for helping others realize, embrace, and achieve their dreams. What I have learned about myself over the last 20 years of my working life is that what I am good at and what I enjoy most is ‘innovation’. For me ‘innovation’ is but another word for growth, change, and learning. In addition to the potential financial, company, or societal benefits of ‘innovation’, I believe ‘innovation’ is core to basic human happiness.
It is within all of our natures to grow, learn, and adapt. The status quo is an idea in our heads but has little relation to the reality of eternal change. I am looking for a role that is focused on innovation. To me this means creating the business and technological structures that create the space within which all your co-workers, customers, and partners can grow, change, and learn in line with your strategic goals.
Innovation takes place each and every day whether or not you ask for it, and it takes place in every part of and through every individual in your organization. However I believe that by taking a focused, active, and conscious approach to innovation and making it an essential part of your organizational culture, systems, principles, and ways of working, you can harness the incredible depth of quality and passion inherent in all of your colleagues, customers, and partners.
Ensuring that innovation is a core part of your organization means creating the space within which every individual’s talents, passions, and dreams can be connected with the strategic goals of your organization. The results can be incredible: meaningful products, dedicated customers, and a continual alignment between productivity, profit, and the actions of each and every co-worker.
My background is technology, yet that is only part of the competence and experience that I can bring to bear in the field of innovation. Digital platforms and solutions are only one piece of the puzzle. Human relationships, communication, intentions, and ways of sharing and working together are the most essential ingredients in innovation.
I don’t know if there is an existing role in your organization that I could fill, or if there is a role that could be created to fit my own passions and talents in such a way that I could become part of your organization. Either way, I would enjoy having the opportunity to discuss this in more detail with you and your colleagues.
Thank you in advance for your consideration.
Best Regards,
Andrew Whalen
